Banana, winter melon and carrot soup

Background: Most people do not understand the benefits of combining the sweetness of several natural ingredients in one soup. Unlike the sweetness of, for examples, red or green bean soups, the sweetness is basically, ordinary cane sugar. If too much is used, it is too sweet. To some people who have a higher sensitivity of taste, they do find that the sweetness of cane sugar quickly turns into an unpalatable taste, meaning, they do not like the sweetness at all.      

Challenges: It is a sweet soup, after all. However, the challenge is to produce a combination of sweetness in one soup. This ensures it is not a case of too much sweetness of a single type which usually, is a put off.

My brilliant idea: There is a need to understand the time needed to boil different ingredients in order for its sweetness to be dissolved in the soup. Finally, combine them into one pot to produce the soup.          

Ingredients: Fully-ripe banana (500 grams), winter melon (500 grams), honey dates (4 pieces), medlar or 枸句子 (twenty pieces), carrots (500 grams), 3 teaspoon of sugar and about the small volume of gula Melaka.  

Procedure: (Broken down into three sections)

Section one: Boil honey date and medlar.

Step 1: Wash the honey dates.

Step 2: Add in about 40 pieces of medlar.

Step 3: Fill up the pot with water.

Step 4: Boil until the honey dates has completely softened.

 Section two: Boil the banana, winter melon and carrot

Step 1: Cut the banana into halves.

Step 2: Cut the winter melons into smaller cubes.

Step 3: Cut the carrot into smaller cubes.

 Step 4: Fill up the pot with water.

Step 5: Add in a thumb-size piece of gula Melaka or 3 teaspoons of ordinary sugar.

Step 6: Boil until the banana has softened. Note: The winter melon is the first to soften.

 Section three: Mix the two soups together.

Step 1: Pour the soup of honey dates and medlar into the same pot.

Step 2: Boil for another 3 minutes, merely to mix them well.

Finished Product:

Note: The banana is orange in color.

 Note: The combined soup is concentrated and is very sweet.

Remarks:

1) This combination of sweetness from banana, winter melon, carrots, honey dates, medlar and gula Melaka is well accepted. (There are six different kind of sweetness in one soup).

2) The soup can be consumed as it is or it can be mixed into another pot of, usually meat-based soup.

3) I added mashed ginger and simmered it until dry to produce beef rending.

Note: Only mashed ginger and no spice was used. It is very suitable for children who have not acquired the taste for spicy food..

Assessment:

1) Boiling meat in plain water usually leaves all its sweetness dissolved in the soup.

2) Replacing plain water with a pot of sweet soup enhanced the sweetness of the meat.

3) In addition, the several types of sweetness introduced into the soup of beef or mutton or chicken enhances its sweetness to produce a wonderful soup.

4) In addition to a wonderful pot of soup with several different sweetness in it, the beef can be further simmered to produce an extraordinary sweet beef rendang.

Common applications:

1) This soup by itself is already wonderful and can be consumed as it is.

2) It can be mixed with some other soup to make a totally different final soup.
