How to cook rice with a strong aromatic flavor.

Background: Children often complains that white rice is too bland. You can experiment with adding various types of vegetables or roots such as sweet potatoes.  Following procedure makes use of a Japanese type sweet potatoes because of its strong fragrance.

1) Proportion: Use 50 gram of Japanese sweet potato to one bowl of rice.
2) Cut up the sweet potato into small cube of size about half a cm cube.

3) Soak the rice until it has turned opaque white in color. (soak time depends on rice type - diameter of rice grain).

 3a) Left hand side: A bowl of (dry) white rice. 3b) Right hand side: Rice soaked in plain water for 15 minutes. It had turned completely opaque white in color and quite softened now.  
4) Add in slightly more water than usual (cooking of plain rice).
5) Cook it over a rice cooker.
6) Do not open the lid until it has been kept warm for at least 30 minutes. (Note 1: This is a must. Otherwise, the sweet aroma would be gone.  Note 2: The industrial engineer who invented the rice cooker had purposely design the rice cooker to work with 30 minutes keep warm period where the water vapor is fully retained to give it a nice aroma.)
Very Important: The sweet potato must be kept in normal refrigeration. If it is left in warm open air for several days, it will turn blackish and the sweet aroma is all lost. Note: The above picture clearly shows that the cut sweet potato had turned blackish in less than a minute after being cut up into small cubes.
Comment: Your family members will definitely loves this strong sweet aromatic rice. There is no need to buy the more expensive type of aromatic rice.
