A dieting formula that dietitians would never tell you

       Obesity is a major problem in our society. Compounded by the explosive propagation of super thin actresses, models in all forms of media publication, more than half the population thinks they are too fat. Hence, they need to go on diet.

I agree, we all need a dieting plan, if not, at least a dieting formula. Here is a simple formula. Perhaps, it is too simple. This is why nobody ever took notice of it. Well, I have been a prolific practitioner of this formula for over 27 years. During this period, my weight was very consistent, ranging from 72 kg to 78 kg for most of the time. Only during a short spell, say, when I was in China on business trip, a mere short one week binge pushed my weight well past 80 kg. Note: At a height of 169cm, I am never slim but slightly over-weight. Two of my brothers weigh more than 100 kg.

Let me share with you my magic formula.

Below are three dieting concepts that you ever need to know. All other prescriptions are rubbish, irrespective of whether these dieting plans are suggested by dietitians, doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Why?

When there are no more fat people, they have no business. If this answer does not ring in your ears, you yourself are to be blamed.

First, do not drink any water that contains sugar. No fizzy drink, no can drinks, not even zero sugar drink. Well, keep to one cup of coffee or tea. This should be the daily maximum amount of sugar you can take from drinks. In 1988, I migrated to Singapore and love a particular drink. It is a soya bean drink. I drank a package a day after lunch to supplement my energy. In two weeks, I put on 2 kg. Immediately, I stop buying it and avoided all drinks that contain sugar. Over the next two weeks, my weight dropped back to the level as before. Sugar free drinks uses aspartame as a replacement for cane sugar. Aspartame is even more harmful than cane sugar. It is in the same family as ajinomoto.

Second, understand this new term, calorie density. Well, I might want to claim credit to my name that I discovered and published this new concept. The ratio of the calorie density by weight of carbohydrates, protein and fat is 4:4:9. However, the ratio of the calorie density by volume of carbohydrates, protein and fat is 1:4:9.

Why must we focus at calorie density by volume?

Our stomach has a certain volume. Food takes up space in our stomach. What that makes our stomach full is the volume of food ingested, and not the weight of food ingested. Does this ring in your ears now?

Why do some doctors stitched up the stomach of patients by half? To reduce the volume of space in the patient stomach so that he eats half the volume of food and yet, he feels full. I am not suggesting this invasive surgical formula.

Boiled rice is fluffy. Fluffy means, its volume increased by a factor of 4 after it is cooked. This made it an ideal staple food that gives up a filling effect despite its calorie is only 1/4 of protein or 1/9 of oil by volume. The worse prescription given by doctors is “Avoid eating carbohydrate, it makes you put on weight.” What the doctors did not tell you is this: High protein intake always leads to poorer health as a result of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides and high sugar in our blood stream.

Other carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, potatoes, maize, tapioca, bread, barley and etcetera, may not be as fluffy as boiled rice. However, their calorie density by volume ranges between 1:4:9 to 4:4:9, the majority of which is nearer to the ratio of 1:4:9.

One more point. You cannot cook meat without adding lots of oil. Yet, you boil rice and other carbohydrates without adding a single drop of oil. Thus, the calorie density of boiled rice to cooked protein food is easily much higher than the ratio of 1:4 because of the oil added during the cooking process.   

If you ever have an idea that people who eats lots of carbohydrates are poor people who cannot afford rich food, especially food that are high in protein, you are doomed to suffer the anxiety of being over-weight. Worse, if you think people who drink plain water of plain tea without sugar is because they are too poor to afford a cup of tea or coffee or can drinks, you are dead wrong. This is exactly what the media is telling you. If not, their media advertisements will not sell. It is as simple as that.              

Third, walk, walk and walk. Human are bipedal. Types of bipedal movement include walking, running, or hopping, on two legs. This is a rare piece of advice from a Professor in hepatology (study of the liver) on the day before his retirement at age 70. He said, “There is no medicine for improving the human liver. The only proven solution and it has been proven in all my patients over my entire career is walking. Walk two hours a day. You can walk half an hour in the morning, an hour in the evening, and a little walking here and there throughout the day. This assures you have a healthy liver. A healthy liver means all other internal organs are least likely to fail.

Take away points.

1) Do not drink any sweet drink. Limit it to one (if you can’t help it two) cups of tea or coffee a day.

2) Eat a lot more carbohydrates and avoid protein as much as possible.  

3) Walk two hours a day.
