How the Lee dynasty fools its citizens

This is the tool that all three Prime Ministers of Singapore have been using very effectively to fool all Singaporeans. This tool is called, “The veil of misinformation” and its principle is very simple. There is no need to tell lies. Just cover up some important information so that the audience can’t see the whole picture. The audience will be fooled by what they see or hear. In other words, just tell the good aspects of a subject and hide all its negative aspects.

I preferred to call this tool, “The Bendan Theory”. In the Chinese language, 笨蛋 (pronounce as bèn dàn ) means a fool. Or in Chinese, 笨蛋理论。

For almost 5 decades, the Lee dynasty has been using The Bendan Theory to fool everyone. Let’s list them down.

1)      Stop at two family planning policy

Good Story (GS): The first and second child can gain entry to the best schools. The third or fourth child may not stand a chance to go to a good primary school.

Hidden Story (HS): Remove some of the rights of the third or fourth child in order to create fear among women who do not follow the recommendations of the family planning unit.

2)      The Great HDB Upgrading Program

GS: Sell your existing flat and buy a bigger flat. You can pocket cold-hard cash in excess of $50,000. Some may earn more than $100,000.

HS: When you buy a bigger flat, you take on a new HDB housing mortgage loan that is three to five times more than the cash that you had made from selling your existing flat.

3)      CPF Housing Grant

GS: Here you are, $50,000 CPF Housing Grant to offset your initial deposit (10% of the selling price of a HDB flat) to purchase a HDB flat. See! The Singapore government is the only Santa Claus in the world.

HS: If a young couple were to work and save hard for three years, at most they can save $20,000. This deposit can only buy a $200,000 flat with $180,000 housing loan. With the CPF housing grant, HDB can price the flat at $500,000 and make huge interests over a much bigger sum of housing loan - $450,000 compared to $180,000. In addition, the government can pocket $300,000 more from the flat buyers ($500,000 compared to $200,000).

4)      HDB flats are heavily subsidized flats

GS: After factoring in open-bidding land price of the private executive flats, the government indeed subsidies the land used to build HDB flats.

HS: The income level of the population is a pyramid. The top 10 percentile of the population can afford to buy private executive flats. The next 20 percentile of the population could afford to buy a flat at less than half the value of the private flats. The next 50 percentile of the population could afford to buy a flat at less than one-third of the price of private executive flats. The bottom 20 percentile of the population can afford to buy a flat at less than one-fifth of the price of the executive flat. This is the truth and only truth: The land price of the private executive flats always enjoys a huge premium over the land used for HDB public housing because of the open bidding process. It is all about a choice between two words: premium or subsidy.

5)      Move up the legal age for retirement

GS: With good medical care, we are healthier and thus, are still fit to work up to 64 years old.

HS: Using a legal retirement age of 64, a 29 years old person can buy a HDB flat and takes 35 years to repay his housing mortgage. Anyway, I do not care if anyone actually works until 64 years old or not. Right in my eyes, I am seeing HDB and all property developers can sell their dwelling units at a much higher price. If you do not understand the logic behind this, please read http://ericwoonct.blog.163.com/blog/static/181911362201276104246641/

6)      GDP growth (or a growing economy is good for everyone)

GS: Singaporean enjoys high near double-digit GDP growth rate for the past 3 decades. All thanks to the PAP-led government. Hurray!  PAP!  PAP!  PAP!

HS: Under Goh Chok Tong, the main contributor (almost 90%) of GDP growth was due to inflation especially, housing and cars. Under Lee Hsien Loong, a new main contributor of GDP growth is due to the huge influx of foreign immigrant workers. The second key factor is the continual spiraling rate of Inflation was even more wide-spread, housing, car, medical and as far as you can name it, it goes on a long list. GDP growth is dependent on three factors: Rate of inflation, foreign immigrants and productivity growth. Productivity growth had stagnant during Goh Chok Tong’s era and it had turned negative after Lee Hsien Loong took over. If you do not understand the logic behind this, please read http://therealsingapore.com/content/gdp-growth-vs-gdp-growth-capita

7)      Foreign Maid levy

GS: We must control the number of foreign maids. To discourage the hiring of unnecessary maids, a monthly levy of $280 (to my best knowledge) is set for each foreign maid.

HS: A monthly sum of $280 is taken from the pocket of the family who needs a foreign maid (no choice, the women folks have to work to supplement their husband’s meager salary) and goes directly into the government coffer. At the same, time, it is so magical. The GDP figure goes up while each hiring family is robbed of this amount every month. In actual fact, there is no need to impose a foreign maid levy at all. Set a few guidelines as to how someone can employ a foreign maid. Working mothers, family with handicapped parents or children are two good guidelines. There is no need to rob these families at all in the first place.

8)      Foreign workers levy

GS: We must control the number of foreign workers. Imposing a levy helps to achieve this.

HS: Every dollar paid as foreign worker levy is counted in the GDP, by way of factoring the cost of construction or cost of manufacturing into the final bidding or selling price of the manufactured goods. Sad to say through this scheme, the government steals the first (low lying) fruits of the economic pie in the form of worker levy; irrespective of whether the construction companies or manufacturing business is going to make money or not. Actually, the number of foreign workers allowed to be hired already is strictly controlled by MOM using a quota system, for examples, x number of foreign workers in the construction industry, or x number of foreign workers to one local resident worker and etc.

9)      No need for Minimum wage policy

GS: Singaporeans do not want to take up menial jobs. Therefore, we have to let in more foreign workers.

HS: Throw back in the worker levy of $450 per month and increase the minimum wage to $1,500 per month. There will be a long line of local (still strong at 50 years old and above) who would want to take up these menial jobs. Don’t laugh at me for not being to produce any statistics. Singapore’s Gini’s coefficient at 0.478 (year 2012) tells it all. Because there isn’t a minimum wage policy, the employers (including the government and GLC’s) can anyhow press down the wages of the workers. The rich can do all they can to maximize profits and of course, at the expense of the workers who are not protected by a minimum wage policy. By the way, if the minimum wage set at $1,500 per month is too low, it can be raised further. Germany’s Gini’s coefficient is at 0.295 (OECD total is 0.314). Why not? Let’s learn from the Germans who do not need much migrant workers and yet, they are the most competitive nation of the world. What? Singapore needs cheap foreign workers to stay competitive? This truly makes every German (or European) laughs out loud. We, Singaporeans have to shaft our faces inside our arses! Please read later http://ericwoonct.blog.163.com/blog/static/181911362201281601437878/

10)   All government linked companies (GLC) must go for profit-maximization

GS: All private companies must maximize profits for its shareholders. Therefore, GLC must do the same.

HS: Under free competition, the private companies could not anyhow increase the final price to its consumers. When there is no free competition, the GLC’s (either through monopoly or oligopoly) can increase price as it likes, willfully. Taxi fares, bus fares, MRT fares, deposit for MRT fare-cards, hospital charges. Polyclinic fees, nursery and kinder garden fees, school fees for autonomous secondary schools, colleges and universities, renewal of passports, renewal of lost NRIC cards, and all kinds of government services. All these contribute positively to huge profits for the GLC. Did you ever ask the question, “The GLC’s are maximizing profits at whose expense?” Answer: You and me, fellow Singaporeans. When the Singapore government wants to rob its own citizens, it openly does it and merely needs to cloak it under the beautiful term, profit-maximization.

11)    COE to curb road congestion

GS: Singapore roads are congestion-free compared to most big cities.

HS: Billions of dollars in COE go directly into the coffer of the government. This is a beautiful way to rob the citizens who thinks they can afford to own a car. Allow the car companies to freely induce the car buyers who only need to putdown one dollar a deposit and take a 100% loan and allow the banks to dish out a ten-year repayment period, the price of the COE will jump sky-high almost reaching $100,000 per COE.  High COE leads to high car price, high COE for taxis, high taxi fares, high bus fares, high MRT fares. If you do not understand the logic behind this, please read http://ericwoonct.blog.163.com/blog/static/181911362201210191306338/

12)   Service and Conservancy charges

GS: It is prudent to have a sinking fund for town council. Save now for future needs.

HS: A good manager know how to balance its budget with plus or minus 10% budget balance every year even after factoring all the one-off major expense items such as repainting of the HDB blocks. If this has been done diligently, the service and conservancy charges would be much lower than today. Don’t laugh at me for not being able to produce statistics because the town council budget reports were never made public. Do you remember the DBS High-5 note saga where some of the town councils lost tens of millions investing in it? Where does this money come from? Of course, it is through over-charging in the S & CC rates for all room types. Can you imagine town councils make uses of this surplus fund obtained from over-charging us in investments that lost all its value in High-5 and High-7 notes? Who is going to pay us back this loses. LHL had already made it very clear DBS bank will not. Please this and you will vomit blood. http://www.theonlinecitizen.com/2007/12/1-billion-in-town-council-funds-whatre-they-used-for/

13)   We are a democracy government

GS: We are a democratically elected government. We go to the polls every five years.

HS: Way back in 1966, shortly before Chia Thye Poh began his 32 years of imprisonment, ISA was used to throw all the members of the opposition party into jail. Behind jail, these activists were given only two choices. Either leave the Singapore political scene or leave the country permanently. How tyrannically LKY had used the iron-fist to quiet down several opposing voices such as: Francis Seow, Tan Liang Hong, JB Jeyaretnam, Chee Soon Juan and etc are evidences of rigging the polls by denying able people from standing on the opposition tickets. It is akin to a boxing fight where the opposition candidate was crippled before he enters the boxing ring. Remember: Democracy on polling day itself is not democracy.

14)    Group Representative Constituency (GRC)

GS: Ensure the minorities are represented or have a voice in Parliament.

HS: Today, the talk in town is Tharman Shanmugaratnam is a qualified candidate to be the next Prime Minister. The voice of the minorities can be clearly heard in the Meet-the-people sessions. However, too bad, most of the MPs are not doing the barest minimum (duty as a MP) to serve the people (including the minorities). Please read http://therealsingapore.com/content/dear-mp-singapore-parliament-please-do-not-fail-yourself-and-your-constituent

15)   Nomination of the Prime Minister

GS: The preferred choice for the Prime Minister is someone who commands the majority of the members of the Parliament. We inherited the Westminster Political System from the British.

HS: Throw out this out-dated Westminster Political System and let the people elect the Prime Minister based on universal suffrage. I guarantee you this. LKY or Lee Hsien Loong will lose very, very badly in this kind of election system.

16)   Party politics

GS: During the general election campaign, the rally themes have always been “Elect the party that put fore able people who can run the country well”. PAP has a pool of the most qualified professionals. The opposition party could hardly field anyone who stands tall in his own professional, least in the general election.

HS: All political parties are dead object. Why vote for a dead object? A political party is live because of the people who organize and run the party. The chairman or secretary-general is its key leader. Who voted the leader of each political party? This is a very frightening answer. It is the party leader who invited other people to become his party members and contest the general election on its party ticket with the promise of $15,000 allowance a month. Please refer to point 13. LKY has been extremely successful in decimating the opposition parties so much so that nobody thinks he stands a chance to pocket the $15,000 allowance if he were to stand for the general election on an opposition party’s ticket.

17)   Party whip

GS: All political party needs a party whip in order to make sure members of Parliament toll the same line of the party in voting for any motion that is tabled in the Parliament.

HS: The party whip is the most effective tool to ensure political tyranny because all decisions of the party leader are unanimously endorsed and passed in the Parliament. This is the reason why LKY, GCT and LHL can rape, rape and rape the people of Singapore for 4 decades (assuming there wasn’t any form of rape during the first ten years the PAP was in office). It is obvious to us now the Singapore government robs us in every conceivable way.  If not, please re-read point 1 to 12. Btw, this list is not exhaustive. You can easily double it to 24 ways and more.

18)   Elected President of Singapore

GS: The principle role of the Elected President of Singapore is to ensure that the current Parliament does not empty the coffers of the government.

HS: Since we have elected the President of Singapore on universal suffrage, why not let him take over the baton to run the country? With that, we can remove the Prime Minister office altogether. This will save the country more than $2 million in annual salary.

19)   Democracy institution

GS: Under the Westminster Political System, we go to the polls every five years. We practice democracy.

HS: What we want is to elect our ruler (who runs the country) through universal suffrage. Then only the people are said to have elected their leader who runs the government by the democratic way. Please re-read point 13 to 17. The Prime Minister who runs the government was never elected through universal suffrage. The Westminster Political system was never a fully democratic process of electing the leader who formed and ran all past and present governments. Actually, the Westminster Political System was designed by past tyrants who stole the right to run the country in the most undemocratic and hideous ways. Please re-read point 13-17, one more time.

Dear fellow Singaporeans,

The next general election is three years away. We cannot sit still and do nothing to remove the Prime Minister. We must do away with the Westminster Political System immediately. This can be done immediately. Please read “Ending Political Tyranny in Singapore” at http://therealsingapore.com/content/ending-political-tyranny-singapore

As I am writing, I am very clear about these two things.

A)     If any of the HS (Hidden story) is false, I shall be the next Chia Thye Poh. Btw, all LKY and LHL need to do is to find fault in just one word and I shall disappear from the face of the Earth immediately.

B)      Please do not expect the current batch of MP of the Parliament of Singapore will ever table in Parliament a motion to remove the Prime Minister office and let our Elected President, Tony Tan Keng Yam takes over the baton to run the country. Over $15,000 monthly allowance, they all fear the PAP party whip. In other words, it is safer to betray the people than to table a motion to remove the Prime Minister office now and shift all its responsibilities to the Elected President.
